I should be so thankful that I have problems like this.
Let me explain.
During my Washington State vacation, I visited Mt. Rainier National Park and took plenty of pictures, both with my Nikon Df camera, my BlackBerry PRIV camera phone, and three film cameras – my Krasnogorsk ะคT-2 (“Raskolnikov”), my AGFA Clack 120 shooter, and my Leica M3 (“Leica Green”).
During my trip to Mt. Rainier, I decided to put together a “camera selfie,” using Leica Green as part of a “beauty shot” with the iconic snow-capped mountaintop in the distance.
And this is what came out.
It’s a nice picture, if I do say so myself …
But then I started thinking.ย What if I flipped this construct into a black and white image?
A little fiddling and diddling in PhotoShop… and…
Wow.
So now I have a question for you, dear readers.
Do I go with my original colorful capture in Competition Season 2018 … or do I submit the highly-detailed black and white version instead …
Or do I just flip-flop and submit a B&W version in some competitions, and a color version in others?
Guys and gals, I want your opinion on this.ย Because I’ve already waffled more times than a politician at a debate.ย I honestly like both versions, but I can’t submit two different copies of the same picture in competition.ย I need a discerning eye and a discerning opinion.
So for that, I put it in your capable hands and eyes.
Let me know in the comments section below as to which picture you think I should submit in competition – the color entry, the black and white entry, or if I should submit both to different competitions.
And mind you, this is all before I even see the developed film images from Leica Green and its film-shooting brethren.ย For all I know, I might have better images from those shooters, and I won’t even see the finished results from them until the film comes back from McGreevy Pro Lab next week.
As I said before … I should be grateful that I have problems like this. ๐
Love them both. The black and white has a more retro feel, the color one is unlike anything Iโve seen before which edges it out to the first choice for me. I have a love for Leica so the subject matter is awesome either way. My only issue with the black and white is that the beautiful landscape behind the camera is a bit muddy and undefined. Hmmmm…. All in all Iโd say go with color photo but work on โtweakingโ the black and white for a future competition. Good Luck!

Color! I like all the colors including the green Leica. It takes a different eye to see the beauty in black and white (I don’t have it).
