I do enjoy the Star Trek franchise. I really do. Although there are parts of it that I really haven’t focused on, I do appreciate this whole overall concept.
What’s harder to grasp, for me, is the position where the new Star Trek iteration, Star Trek: Discovery, fits into everything. The show purports to take place ten years before the events of the Star Trek: The Original Series timeline (Kirk and Spock and McCoy), but the technology on the show is light years above and beyond anything I’ve ever seen in a Star Trek series. That, and there’s an aesthetic to this show that both intrigues me – and bothers me, almost as if there’s more style over substance.
That being said … in the season finale, the Discovery received communications from the USS Starship Enterprise. At the time, Enterprise was helmed by Christopher Pike (you can see a Pike-helmed episode in the original series’ “The Menagerie”, a/k/a “The Cage”). So it looks as if we’ll have interactions with Captain Pike and the pre-TOS crew with our Discovery crew.
Okay. Fan-service initiated at warp factor three.
Anyways, over the weekend, a new trailer for Star Trek: Discovery’s second season was shown to Comic-Con attendees. Thankfully, we don’t have to rely on cell phone camera footage to see what happened, the network was kind enough to upload that trailer to YouTube, and I can share it with you now.
So… excited? Yes? No? Maybe?
I’m still on the fence.
Let’s see if Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery has an opportunity to improve on what Season 1 tried.
I’ll give it a chance.
Make it so.
Beam me up.
Don’t make me use “He’s dead, Jim.” Because I can. 😀
Looks interesting. Of course, I’ve only watched ONE episode of the series;
