Five o’clock and the rains have just washed the Albany area with a sudden shower.
And I look. Yes, the sun is setting, and there’s a clear view of the sun past the Empire State Plaza.
Which means … there’s a rainbow towards the Hudson River.
Now rainbows only last for a few minutes – just as long as there’s moisture in the air and bright sunshine behind you…
Now I’ve been fortunate enough to capture digital rainbow photographs over the years, and trust me rainbows are beautiful.
As I said before, rainbows are beautiful. And capturing them with your camera is a nice touch.
Case in point. As the rain stopped, and moisture was still hanging in the air … I snagged this picture from an office window in downtown Albany.
Okay. Rainbow caught. Time to go home.
Wait a second.
Is that …
Is that a double rainbow?
Can I catch a double rainbow with this little BlackBerry KEYone phone?
Gotta give it a shot.
I turned the camera from portrait to landscape mode…
Ready … aim … and fire.
Sweet Ark of the Covenant, that’s not only a double rainbow, but you can see a dark band between the rainbows!
Okay, now it’s time to go home.
Now I’m thinking.
From this office window, I’ve got a great rainbow shot against the SUNY Administration Building, the old D&H headquarters.
But if I move to a different office … is it possible that I could get the rainbow to line up with the tallest building spire?
One office over.
Two offices over.
Not quite… maybe al ittle more …
And after what seemed like an eternity in milliseconds…
I got the angle.
And I got the shot.
I’ve done all I can with this picture … now it’s time to head home …
And by “head home,” I mean I need to go to my copy of PhotoShop and try to fix some of these highlights and boost the contrast and really bring this rainbow out to its full brightness.
Ladies and gentlemen…
Take a look at this.
Holy Henry Hudson, Batman … not only do I have the rainbow, I’ve got it actually lined up with the tip of the tower … with the Half Moon weathervane highlighted perfectly!!! I couldn’t have gotten that picture tighter if I ran over to the USNY Administration Building, climbed up the side of the tower, and adjusted the weathervane with my bare hands, then ran back to the office building and took the photo!
So yeah, I can definitely consider this picture for Competition Season 2019…
I mean … wouldn’t you? 😀
