Call for Entries – the HIPA 2021-2022 Photo Competition

I’ve entered this competition several times, and although I’ve never won – at least not yet – I still try.

This is one of the biggest worldwide photo competitions in the world. It’s the annual HIPA photo competition, sponsored by His Highness, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The competition involves submitting photographs in several different categories, depending on the category and the discipline. Here’s a link to the competition call for entries.

The 2021-2022 theme is “Nature,” and the rules, prize money and FAQ are listed here.

And trust me, that’s big prize money. The grand prize winner in the designated “Nature” category can score $120,000. You read that correctly.

As I said before, I’ve entered this competition a few times, but for me, it’s like showing up at a Michelin cooking competition with my homemade bowl of Spam Stroganoff. But that doesn’t mean I don’t keep trying.

Besides … there may be a judge out there who appreciates Spam Stroganoff. You don’t know.

Now long-time readers of the blog are going to say to me, “Chuck, this is great. You could submit Washington County, 2:30 a.m. or After the Rain or something like that into the competition.”

Yeah, I could. But I can’t. I checked the rules, and since both of those photos won awards in other competitions, they’re ineligible for HIPA’s competition. So whatever I submit, it has to be either completely new images – at least for this event.

Besides, it’s one thing for Chuck Miller to submit photos. I don’t write this blog as an online diary. If you’re a photographer and you want to showcase your talents, by all means, try this competition.

Challenge yourself. Make things happen. You never know.
