A prayer for a fellow TU blogger

Jay Gallagher is in the fight of his life.  He’s just completed a surgical process to try to stop a cancerous tumor from claiming victory.

Jay last updated his blog post on May 18, where he discussed his need to go back to the hospital as a result of vomiting up blood.  Jay Gallagher is fighting a demon called cancer.  He’s been fighting it with grace and with dignity, and has been chronicling his battle with the insidious disease in his TU blog.

He’s been in the hospital since that time, and his wife Emily and daughter Janice kept us updated in the next blog, which was posted May 21.

Today, May 22, at 9:43 a.m., his daughter Janice posted the latest news. I’m sorry to repost this quote from the blog post.

The tumor, not the stomach/small intestine, is in fact causing the bleeding it turns out. This means there is nothing that can be done to stop the bleeding, and we hope he will transition to hospice care soon. We are not sure how long he has, but we are told maybe a few days.

With that in mind, if you have a moment in your day, please say a prayer for Jay Gallagher. He’s a fighter – he’s fought this disease – and I know he’ll fight this for as long as he possibly can.  If you get a chance, post a note on his blog and let his wife and daughter know of your support and prayers.

The family has requested that no visitors other than family members or very close friends visit Jay at the hospital, so at this point it’s probably best to send your support through the blog pages.

I’ve said this before.  A community comes together.  The Times-Union bloggers are a community, as disparate and as diverse as a community can be.

Let’s all show our support and appreciation for Jay Gallagher.

Please.
