Is that Phantogram’s music in a New York Lottery commercial?

Oh sweet lord it is.

According to the All Over Albany blog, the intro to Phantogram’s infectious song “Mouthful of Diamonds” is being used by the New York State Lottery for its a new Powerball commercial.

In the commercial, a person buys a lottery ticket, then walks out of the subway – except that he’s getting larger, and the city is getting smaller with every step he takes.

The first time I saw the commercial, I thought it had something to do with Saul Steinberg’s beloved New Yorker “Map of New York as Seen from 9th Avenue” cover.

That was, of course, before I heard the intro to “Mouthful of Diamonds” on the backing track.

That does it.  I’m buying Powerball tickets now.  Just because I heard Phantogram’s music on the commercial.  Sweet.
