Sunday afternoon. I’ve loaded the car with ten polar panorama photographs, all blown up to 12″ x 12″ foam-boarded images. I picked up some “foam-board” hooks from Arlene’s Art Supply, and off I go to the 440 Art Gallery in Schenectady.
It’s Hanging Day.
The artists that are part of the June 2010 art show – Cookie, JoElla Casse, Kris Hauser, Noelle Macgonigle, Dan Oropallo, Clark Seeley, Lauren San, and myself – need to hang their artwork on Sunday, so that everything will be in place when the show opens this coming Friday.
As the artists arrived with their materials, Meghan Murphy – the organizer of our group show – helped each artist in determining where his or her art would be hung for maximum exposure and contrast. Of course, it also helped that the artists were in tune with the situation and brought their own nails, hangers, levels, adhesive putties – and hammers. Every artist had their own hammer. We could have done a tribute to Trini Lopez with all the hammers we had.
Believe me, I’m still soaking all this in. I’ve never been part of an art gallery showing, and I’m hoping that the shots I took will resonate with art attendees.
I should also mention that I did see some of the artwork of the other artists, and it’s pretty powerful stuff. You will be impressed on Friday.
So if you’re able to attend, or if you would like to come and see the works of up-and-coming Capital Region painters, photographers, collagists and other visual artists – and enjoy the sounds of TrueMaster DjTrumastr Trimingham, let me know.
I created a Facebook event thingy (that’s right, I’m so high-tech I’m calling it an “event thingy”), and if you are coming to the event, click on the hyperlink and let the artists know you’ll be there. Come on down and check out the art!
Chuck, how long is the exhibition if we can’t make it Friday night? Would love to attend and see your work in person.
