The online trivia game that’s all it’s QRANKed up to be

So here’s the deal.  You want to go play competitive team trivia, but there’s no game nearby at a tavern or bar right now.  And you haven’t gotten that call from Jeopardy! or Who Wants to Be a Millionaire that says you can get on the show and play for money.

What if you want a quick, down and dirty trivia game that you can play on your iPhone or through Facebook?

Let me introduce you to QRANK.

QRANK is an online trivia game that can be played, once a day, online.  There are 20 questions available; you get to answer 15 of them.  Questions range in point value from 200 points (easy) to 1,000 points (real tough).  There are three bonus point value questions (two “2x” and a “3x”) that are hidden on the game board.

Once you finish playing QRANK, your scores are posted – and you can see how you’re doing against your friends, against the city, against the state, against the country and against the world.  Doing well in the game earns you bragging badges (getting all 15 questions in a game right earns you the “Pointdexter” medal, for example).  You can also earn several different power-up lifelines through the game – including removing two wrong answers from the four answers offered; or finding out where the hidden bonus multiplier questions are stored.

How addictive is this game?  Let’s put it this way.  The captain of one of the trivia teams I play against at Elbo Room, “Team Schooled,” plays QRANK as often as she can.  Two days ago, she hit the highest score she had ever previously achieved – and then grimaced because her score was about 400 points behind mine for that day.  “GRR” she wrote on my Facebook page.  Yesterday, she finally edged me in QRANK (I missed one question out of 15, boo hoo) and again, she posted on my wall, “Victory is Mine!”  You would have thought she had beaten the Yankees in the World Series on an inside-the-park home run.

At least for that day… he he he he.  I just finished playing this morning, hitting 15 out of 15 correct and finishing with 8,690 points.  Beat that, Jen…

QRANK is available as an app in the iTunes Store, or through Facebook.  It’s definitely worth a try – give it a click and let me know what you think!
