The Long Lost Star Wars Holiday Special

George Lucas ain’t gonna be happy when he sees this.

Neither is anybody else associated with this project.

See, a couple of years after Star Wars debuted on the motion picture screen, and became one of the biggest movie blockbusters of all time, someone came up with this great idea.  What would it take to put together a Star Wars television special, aim it at the Christmas audience, and get the same type of blockbuster ratings that the movie currently earned?

You may need some protective eyeglasses to watch this.  I recommend a welder’s mask.

What you’re about to see is the Star Wars Holiday Special, which is a combination variety show / holiday presentation.  Many of the main characters and actors return for this special, including Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia Organa, and even Chewbacca the Wookiee.

Oh, and Bea Arthur, Diahann Carroll, and a bunch of other fun.

This television special is notable for introducing several facets of the Star Wars universe into canon, including Chewbacca’s home world of Kashyyyk (which was later visited in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith), and the first appearance – albeit animated – of the bounty hunter Boba Fett (who would appear in Episodes II, III, V and VI of the movie series).

But the rest of this special is about as painful as a loofah made of Brillo.  Don’t believe me?

The evidence is right here.  Click and be warned.  You may need The Force to get through this little adventure.

Enjoy. I think the only way this will actually work out – is if someone does a RiffTrax version.

Oh wait… there IS a RiffTrax for this movie.  He he he he he…
