More XPRO Photographs along the New York State Thruway

On my recent trip to Rochester, I decided to take some photos with Fujichrome Provia in my Rollei; then I had McGreevy Pro Lab develop them in C-41 chemicals (slide film takes E-6 processing, so cross-processing the film provides a surreal, dreamlike color scheme).

This is a replica of the Statue of Liberty at the Peace, Health and Friendship Square in Amsterdam.  The sun has just peeked over the horizon, you can still see a fragment of the moon in the picture as well.

Here’s the marquee of the Beech-Nut plant in Canajoharie. I wanted to shoot this from the Thruway directly; but there really was no safe place to do so. However, there is a bit of a knoll next to the elevated Thruway bridge; a perfect spot to photograph.

And next to the Beech-Nut plant is a very elegant-looking church – this is St. John’s – St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Canajoharie. I shot this from the very same knoll.

It looks good from that angle, but here’s another shot of the church from street level. Dang telephone wires messing up my shot… grr…

Just before Exit 33 (the Turning Stone Casino exit), I saw a flock of birds near the Rome Sand Plains.  Pulled over, got the Rollei, and squeezed off a couple of shots.

And just outside the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester is the Genesee River; I got a few shots of the water as it flows over a spillway. The photo is a bit overexposed; I’ll have to be more careful about settings involving reflected water in the future.

So not only am I liking this Rollei; I’m also liking this XPRO cross-processing format. If I keep this up… perhaps I can find a contest-worthy photograph out of this in the future.

We shall see.
