When I photographed the fireworks at the Empire State Plaza last Monday, I used my Nikon D700 to capture the lion’s share of the bursts. That doesn’t mean that the D700 was the only camera I used that night.
During the middle of the fireworks show, I took the D700 off the tripod and activated my Nikon F100 35mm film shooter – which was loaded with Fuji Velvia slide film. And I got these shots.
Then I took the F100 off the tripod – and put my Rolleiflex Automat MX into action. These are my first fireworks photos with the Rollei – and I used a roll of Kodak Ektachrome 64T, which is balanced for a tungsten shift. If I don’t use a flash with Ektachrome 64T, the film will produce a blue shift. Which, when it comes to the fireworks photos … isn’t a bad thing, as you can see. Sharp fireworks bursts with a cobalt blue background… pretty swank, if you ask me.
Just a little extra fireworks photography for your enjoyment this weekend.

Beautiful photos Chuck. Thank you for sharing them. It’s amazing how professional photos of fireworks look compared to us regular photo takers.
