Randy Howard and I worked together on the old CD Sports Capital District monthly sports newspaper about a decade and a half ago. We reconnected a few months ago, and now he’s on my blogroll – go down to the right side of the page and click on Randy Howard’s ChinMusik for more info.
Anyways… Randy’s starting up a new venture – a new product line, called Art.e.Fakts. The first product from this venture – a series of wallets made out of duct tape material. Here’s the promotional pitch.
“Flexible, durable, and water-proof, these unique items bring an innovative approach to a traditional product. People are captivated by both the concept and the design. It’s a practical conversation piece, no animals were harmed in the making of this product, and, best of all, they only cost $14.99 (add $3.50 shipping & handling.)”

If you want to get a duct tape wallet from Randy Howard – the wallets come in several colors and styles – send him an e-mail. I ordered one a few days ago, and I’m looking forward to receiving it.
Now, do you remember the blog headline above, where I say that the wallets are being sold for a good cause?
Well, they are. Randy Howard needs something good to happen in his life.
In the span of about 48 hours, he and his wife split up. He had an emergency garage sale and sold whatever he could, but a couple of days later, he was spending the night – including his birthday – in his car. Not a pleasant experience.
I contacted him through Facebook and asked if he wanted to get breakfast. My message must have gotten lost in the sea of Facebook messages from his other friends offering him support and assistance. No matter. In a situation like this, you help out wherever possible; you do whatever it takes. If someone is down, you help him up. That’s not negotiable. You just do it.
Because I hope that if I ever get in a situation like that – where I feel that there’s nowhere to turn and things are looking grim…
That I have someone to help me out of the malaise as well.
And now, the FTC disclaimer. I have not requested, nor have I received, any discounts, profits or kickbacks from either Randy Howard or Art.E.Fakts for mentioning the duct tape wallets in this blog.
Sure–why not! My friend used to make rings out of wires and beads, and I’ve seen necklaces made of fabric and marbles…some for a good cause (other than profit). They are attractive wallets.

A friend of mine gave me a duct tape wallet in 2002, and it has been the only wallet I’ve used since then. I’ve had to retape parts of it once or twice, but it has otherwise been the best wallet I’ve ever had.
