A literary classic comes to life, narrated by Kevin Marshall

I’ve helped out with Kevin Marshall‘s charity fundraisers in the past.  You know me.  Bloggers support bloggers.  But this time, if I’m going to contribute to his newest worthy fundraiser, I wanted something extra-special in return.

See, Kevin is trying to raise $1,000 for New York Special Olympics, and if he reaches that goal he will be able to repel off the roof of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Albany.  That’s great.  I wish him all the success in the world.  That, and very strong ropes.

So with that, I put in $25 toward the cause.

But then Kevin added a few extra “bonuses” for fundraising attempts.  If someone donated $300, for example, he would wear an article of clothing of the donor’s choice upon his descent.  For $50, he would re-enact a video in which a man “bleats” out his composition, “The Lost Sheep.”

You think I’m going to let this get away?  Yeah, right.  I made him a deal.  A deal involving a minor league baseball team. I’ll increase my donation to $50 if he would read a chapter from my book The Robins of Iverhill.

Sure enough, he agreed.  And I increased my bid to a total of $50.

And since the Manville Shark is a man of his word, he has narrated the prologue to The Robins of Iverhill, and has posted it on his blog today. The prologue invites the reader into the upstate New York logging town of Iverhill, deep in the heart of Otswego County.  It’s a great start for the novel itself, and it’s also great for the four Christmas stories I penned last year that are also themed around the town and its people.

Much thanks to Kevin Marshall, and all the support for his fundraising efforts for Special Olympics.  If you want to contribute to the cause, click here for more information.
