So let’s see here… supposedly we’ve got a massive hurricane or tropical storm a’comin’ our way. Now, we do live between two rivers and a mountain range, which can cause any amount of confusion in the meteorological category. So, on this very special edition of K-Chuck Radio, I have pulled out some of the stormiest songs out there. You may need an umbrella ella ella eh eh eh to enjoy them. But I hope you enjoy them.
SCORPIONS
Rock You Like a Hurricane
Must be played loud enough to drown out any thunder and lightning.
ORAN “JUICE” JONES
The Rain
Nothing like the ultimate “kick your cheating ex to the curb” song. And hope that all her stuff gets drenched on the move-out.
THE DRAMATICS
In The Rain
The other end of the spectrum is – you’ve been kicked out. And that rain is much colder than you expected.
THE FIVE SHARPS
Stormy Weather
This is the rarest doo-wop record in existence; only three 78 RPM copies are known to exist. If anyone could find a 45 of this record – a legit pressing, not a bootleg or repro – they could command up to $25,000 at auction.
JAY AND THE AMERICANS
Walking In The Rain
A couple of weeks ago, I did a K-Chuck featuring the work of Phil Spector. One of the songs I listed was the Ronettes’ “Walking In the Rain,” and this is another version of that classic, as performed by the harmony group Jay and the Americans.
CHI COLTRANE
Thunder and Lightning
Decent song, one hit wonder, such is life.
KISS
God of Thunder
Nothing like Gene Simmons performing with a symphony orchestra behind him. And you thought the only time he ever got sentimental was when he was proposing to Shannon Tweed.
THE BEATLES
Rain
If you play this record backwards, there are messages on it – John Lennon actually experimented with putting a lyric into the song backwards. No, it does not say, “Turn Me On, Dead Man,” that’s “Revolution Number 9.”
DOORS
Riders on the Storm
Of course I had to list this one. Are you kidding me? It’s the freakin’ Doors.
DRAGON
Rain
Of course I had to list this one. Are you kidding me? It’s freakin’ Dragon.
Now go out there, get all your provisions, your batteries, your toilet paper, your betting tickets for the Travers, your picks for the night race at Bristol (go Kevin Harvick!), and enjoy this atmospheric classic from K-Chuck Radio!
You forgot “I Can’t Stand the Rain”, as well as the two most suited for this storm: “Come on,
IreneEileen” and “Goodnight, Irene”.LikeLike
I love this. It’s perfect!

And then there are the wind songs, which also appear to be relevant: “Windy” (The Association), “She’s Like the Wind” (Patrick Swayze), “Against the Wind” (Bob Seger) … but I’m leaving out “Wind Beneath My Wings” (Bette Midler), which doesn’t seem to match Irene’s intent.

Thank you for being merciful and not including Milli Vanilli’s ‘Blame It On the Rain.’
