I used to love watching the Jonny Quest action cartoon. Okay, now I watch The Venture Brothers and it’s almost the same thing – yeah, The Venture Brothers is a satire on the whole “boy adventurer” cartoon genre, I know – but when you see the fantastically detailed (for a 1960’s TV cartoon) animation and artwork, as well as the exciting storylines, Jonny Quest is just a great 30 minutes of escapist fun.
In fact, here’s the introduction to the series.
The introduction was later updated in 1979 when Jonny Quest reruns appeared on NBC’s Saturday morning cartoon lineup, and actually contained some narration as to who was who.

Roger D. Evans loved the Jonny Quest TV show, and he always wanted a set of Jonny Quest action figures – unfortunately, none were ever produced. Did that stop him? Nah. He made his own action figures – and then, using stop-motion animation, re-created the entire opening animation from the Jonny Quest show. Check this out.

Jonny Quest still ranks as my all-time fav. I got the DvD collection when it came out a few years ago. A little disappointed because they removed some dialogue that was no longer considered “PC,” like Race calling the natives holding Dr Quest captive savages in “Pursuit of the Po-ho.”
I recall talk of signing the Rock up to play Race in a film version of Jonny Quest, but that was a couple years ago.
That stop-motion version of the opening is AWESOME BTW.

I loved Johnny Quest..it was the only cartoon where the bad guys actually died sometimes…..wonder if they took that out of the dvd’s too?

Tony-No, fortunately, the bad guys still die, you just can’t call them savages while sending them to their doom apparently.

I seem to remember one where 2 bad guys in turbins were in a jeep that plunges off a bridge or something, and as they are falling they grab and hug eachother… awesome.
