Remember last Thursday, when the final trivia question of the night was based on the category of “Sports Trophies,” and the question was, “In what sport do teams compete for the Kelly Cup”?
Well, if you’re a fan of the ECHL, then you know it’s awarded to the best hockey team in that league.
I mention this because the team known as Get That Poison Out wrote down the sport of rugby as a possible answer. And after the game was over, some of the Poisons looked up on line – because they had never heard of the ECHL – and lo and behold, they found a Kelly Cup in a rugby league tournament between Australia and New Zealand.
Essentially… they were right, too.
After much huddling around and discussions, word came down from the Trivia Nights Live organization that indeed, Get That Poison Out would have earned enough points for second place with their answer, and in doing so would have garnered three playoff points. The teams that were in second and third place on the night, Street Academy and Woo Hoo a Go Go, will be allowed to keep their playoff points as well. So congratulations to Get That Poison Out, who finally get on the board after three weeks – and a couple of days.
So here’s the corrected standings after three weeks. The top eight teams are listed above the “CUT LINE”; if the tournament ended today, those would be the eight teams that can play in the championship round. Any team with a star in the box marked “Finals” has mathematically qualified for the money round, no matter how they do for the rest of the tournament.
| Trivia Team | Points | Totals | FINALS | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| T-1 | Team Schooled | 5 | 8 | |
| T-1 | Street Academy | 3 | 8 | |
| 3 | Woo Hoo a Go Go | 1 | 7 | |
| 4 | Team Fist | 4 | ||
| 5 | Get That Poison Out | 3 | 3 |
And only the top eight teams will make it into the final tournament round. Any team in ninth place or below will not make the cut. So teams now have to keep playing and avoid the dreaded cut line.
Three weeks down. Seventeen weeks left to go.
