In the true tradition of Top 40 pop radio, I’m going to list several different music tracks from several different musical genres. Essentially, you’ll probably find at least one or two songs on K-Chuck Radio that will make you feel good. Hopefully all ten of them will. So relax and enjoy and have a good time doing so!
MICHAEL NESMITH
Rio
Yes, this is Michael Nesmith, alum of the Monkees, who created a successful post-Monkee career with the Grammy Award-winning video “Michael Nesmith in Elephant Parts.” I especially love this song “Rio,” it’s got a great beat to it and the video is kinda quirky too.
MANHATTAN TRANSFER
Soul Food To Go
The Manhattan Transfer’s album Brasil captured a ton of fantastic South American sounds, and this video features a miniature version of Manhattan Transfer – as animated by Will Vinton Studios, the same company that brought us the California Raisins commercials.
WAR
Groovin’
Yes, I played the bejeebers out of this song when I was in college radio. Why did I do so? Because it was just THAT DARN GOOD.
EMILY KRANZ
Malos Modos
Tell me, what would you think a Spanish version of Santana’s “Evil Ways” would sound like? Click the clip below and find out for yourself.
PAUL WINTER CONSORT
Icarus
When the New York State Museum moved from the State Education Building to its own structure at the Empire State Plaza, they often ran a film called “Chronicles of Change.” The film featured the soundtrack to Paul Winter’s Icarus. It’s a great New Age track. Had to include it here.
JUN FUKAMACHI
Sea Horses
One of the early electronic music pioneers, along with Wendy Carlos and Gershon Kingsley, Jun Fukamachi mixed acoustic and synthetic instruments together and created a wonderful collection of albums. I love this track. You will, too.
THE DAVE MILLER SET
Mr. Guy Fawkes
Here’s some psychedelic music from the 1970’s. There’s two versions of this song; the Dave Miller Set version is extremely trippy and has several different movements in it.
THE SWINGLE SINGERS
Amazing Grace
There have been “Swingle Singers” groups since about maybe the 1960’s, when the a cappella group took home a Grammy award for Best New Artist in 1963. Today’s Swingle Singers can be heard as part of the background music on the TV show Glee; they’re the singers that DON’T need Auto-tuning.
THE NEON PHILHARMONIC
Morning Girl / Morning Girl Later
A 40-piece orchestra backed this psychedelic pop Top 40 hit. The original hit was about 2 minutes long; this version you hear was actually merged with another song on the Album, so you have “Morning Girl” and “Morning Girl Later” as one single symphony.
KRAFTWERK
Neon Lights
Can you believe that the original purveyors of electronic music would have created a ballad with their synthesizers? Well, they did. And it’s here.
It’s a mix today, but hopefully a pleasant mix for your enjoyment, so have a great day and remember… you’re tuned to K-Chuck Radio!!
