Swing to the Music this Friday in Troy

What a great way for couples to meet, for people to get together, for everybody to exercise and dance and have a fantastic time.

And it’s starting this Friday night in downtown Troy.

I’m talking about the Swing Syndicate.

The Swing Syndicate is a new dance studio at 212 River Street, where studio founders Orian Breaux and Emily McNeight are spreading the gospel of classic bop, jumpin’ jive, blues and big band swing. As your parents and grandparents got together with the Charleston and the Lindy Hop, you too can experience the fun and excitement of swing dancing at Troy’s newest dance studio.

“Already, at venues like Daisy Bakers and RPI, Troy is becoming the heart of the swing dance community in the Capital Region,” said Breaux and McNeight in their press release.  “We want to take it to the next level and make Troy synonymous with great dancing, lively music, and the youthful spirit of swing, not only to swing dancers in the region, but to dancers across the Northeast.”

With a dedicated teaching staff of four, The Swing Syndicate is currently offering open enrollment into their six-week long sessions, reasonably priced at $70. Additionally, one-time hour-long courses are available every Troy Night Out for $5. For more information, or to register, visit http://www.swingsyndicatedance.com.

A number of exciting events are already in full swing, as Breaux and McNeight discuss hosting major dances with nationally-recognized swing bands at larger venues in Troy. Plans for a gigantic swing dance festival—requiring parts of River Street to be blocked off to traffic—are currently being presented to city officials.

Prospective students, community members, and dancers of all skill levels are welcome to attend the Grand Opening Celebration of The Swing Syndicate on October 28, 2011 from 5 p.m.- 2 a.m. Troy Night Out is the perfect opportunity to meet and greet with the founders. Enjoy six hours of dancing, including Jack & Jill dance contests, introduction to swing classes at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., and the main dance from 8 p.m.-midnight. Guests will be served cupcakes and fondue at midnight. Advanced tickets can be purchased online for $10 per person, and admission is $15 at the door.
