K-Chuck Radio: 70’s love songs for a friend who’s getting married today…

I’m breaking my long-standing taboo of participating in wedding photography.  I don’t need to deal with angry bridezillas and even angrier groomzillas.  No.  I don’t even want to deal with the Aunt Penelope-zilla who came all the way from Ypsilanti, Michigan to see her niece finally tie the knot, even though she thinks the groom is a major league doofus.

But in this instance, I’m making a major exception.

My Street Academy trivia teammate Alexis Curry is getting married today.  She found James, the love of her life, and they want to spend the rest of their lives together in holy matrimony.  And I wish them every success in the world, every beautiful moment, every sunrise and sunset and happiness and triumph.  May their summers be long and their winters be short.

And because I once wrote a K-Chuck Radio blog post about ten songs you should NEVER play at a wedding, I thought that today it would be appropriate to contribute ten songs – sweet, wonderful ballads from the 1970’s – as the first notes for their nuptials. Of course these songs are from the 1970’s – that was when the best love songs were written. You know this and I know this. And if you need the best start of a soundtrack for your own lives, let it come from some of the greatest singers and songwriters of the easy listening era.

That’s right – not only am I the wedding photographer, but I’m also the DJ.  And I promise – no chicken dance songs, no electric slide.

Let’s start with:

JIM CROCE
I’ll Have To Say I Love You In A Song

BREAD
Make It With You

OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN
If Not For You

THE CARPENTERS
We’ve Only Just Begun

ART GARFUNKEL

NEIL SEDAKA

FIREFALL

Happy wedding day, James and Alexis.  Let today be the first day of a wonderful marriage that outlasts all of us.  And I hope these songs help build the foundation for your future.
