K-Chuck Radio: Let’s get the Beatles’ kids to form a band! We could be bigger than Wilson Phillips!! Even bigger than Tal Bachmann!!!

Apparently there’s a news report that James McCartney might be forming a band with Dhani Harrison, Zak Starkey and Sean Lennon at some point.

Yep.ย  Apparently the sons of the Beatles are contemplating forming a new generation of Beatles.ย  I’ll pass over the possible jokes about whether or not they would record their parents’ old songs or come up with their own tracks.

But I thought about this for a couple of seconds.ย  Rock and roll has been around so long that, in fact, the sons and daughters of pop and rock stars are having hits of their own.ย  Or at least ATTEMPTING to have hits of their own.

Which of course brings me to this edition of K-Chuck Radio.ย  Featuring the next generation of those who originally made rock and roll what it is today.ย  Starting with…

LISA MARIE PRESLEY
“Lights Out”

Yes, Elvis Presley’s daughter has enough chops to record a country-rock song… I think this was her biggest hit of her short recording career, notwithstanding a couple of tape-assembled “duets” she did with her father at one point in time.

WILSON PHILLIPS
“Release Me”

I’m not going to say anything bad about Wilson Phillips. Their harmonies are still sweet, and why we don’t hear them on oldies radio stations any more is a complete shame.

3T
“Anything”

These young men have some R&B royalty in their blood – their father was Tito Jackson, one of the members of the Jackson 5. You know what that means… Uncle Jermaine, Aunt Janet, Uncle Michael, Aunt LaToya… I gotta say, though, 3T sounds great. Still do.

TAL BACHMAN
“She’s So High”

Yep, the son of Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s Randy Bachman took care of business and had a hit of his own. Guess you ain’t seen nothing yet. B-b-b-baby, you just ain’t seen n-n-n-nothing yet.

NELSON
“(I Can’t Live Without Your) Love and Affection”

The twin sons of pop singer Ricky Nelson – as well as being the grandsons of bandleader Ozzie Nelson – had a monster hit in 1990 with this song. After that… not so much. But if you’re going to be a one-hit wonder… this isn’t a bad “one hit” to have.

NORAH JONES
“Don’t Know Why”

Yep, she’s got rock royalty in her as well… her father was famed sitarist Ravi Shankar.

NANCY SINATRA
“These Boots Are Made For Walking”

Can you believe that during the late 1960’s, Nancy Sinatra actually outsold her father Frank Sinatra in the record stores, based on major hits like “These Boots Are Made For Walking”? Well, maybe it’s because Nancy Sinatra looked better in hot pants and thigh-high boots than Frank Sinatra ever did…

DINO, DESI AND BILLY
“My What a Shame”

The “Dino” is Dean-Paul Martin, son of crooner Dean Martin. The “Desi” is Desi Arnaz Jr., son of Cuban bandleader / actor Desi Arnaz. The “Billy” was Billy Hinsche, who was the son of … I have no idea who his parents were. Sorry. Hey guys, great lip-synching job on this video. You are aware that if we hear drum beats, we expect to see the drummer hitting the drum with his drum sticks throughout the song… right?

JULIAN LENNON
“Valotte”

For the love of all things Beatles, if this new Beatles group had enough brain cells, don’tcha think they should at least call Julian Lennon to be part of the group? Leaving Julian Lennon out of this new Beatles group would be akin to these new Beatles forming a clothing line and not inviting Stella McCartney to be part of it.

KIM WILDE
“Kids in America”

Kim Wilde’s father was British pop singer Marty Wilde. Although Marty didn’t have any hits in America, his daughter sure did – this track and a cover of the Supremes’ “You Keep Me Hanging On.” I guess the vintage New Waver in me kinda likes this song, rather than the Supremes cover.

MILEY CYRUS
“The Climb”

You may not know this, but Miley Cyrus’ father was some country singer, I think he was named Billy Ray Cyrus, and he might have had a country song or two about an achy breaky heart. Maybe. I’m not sure. Look, it was either this or “Party in the U.S.A.” Be thankful I didn’t post “Party in the U.S.A.”

KELLY OSBOURNE
“Papa Don’t Preach”

Laugh if you must, but at one point in time Kelly Osbourne was one of MTV’s biggest stars. This was back in the B.S. years of MTV… back when B.S. meant “Before Snooki.”

WILLOW SMITH
“Whip My Hair”

This is just wrong. Wrong on about 15 different levels. Oh well… maybe she has to go through her “Fresh Prince” phase, just like her father Will Smith did. And in about 15 years, she’ll be an A-list star in Hollywood. Until then… we got this. Scuse me. Stomach’s turning. Need to go find relief.

So if these new Beatles actually do get together and record… they could be as good as Wilson Phillips or 3T… or as painful as a Kelly Osbourne-Miley Cyrus-Willow Smith triple-bill concert.ย  Urgh.
