Continuing on with my blog posts for the day, here’s five excellent blog posts by local photographer Sébastien Barré:
- His interview with photographer Justin Higgins
- Requiescat in Pace
- The 1:00 A.M. Fog in Washington Park
- Living Walls in Albany
- St. Joseph’s Academy (or, as I once knew it, the Edward F. Kennell Center)
Read these blog posts, and you’ll see why Sébastien Barré deserves your vote as “Best Blogger” in the Times Union’s “Best of 2012” poll!
Thanks! You certainly did your homework in this series 🙂 I’m a fan of Akum’s blog.
I’ve shared my opinion about the “TU Best Of” so I’ll try not to be hypocritical here, “Best Blogger” doesn’t make much sense to me. I believe the *editorial* role of a big media like the TU is to shed some light on places, businesses, people (or blogs) that people may not be aware of. This is, in my opinion, the opposite of a popularity contest, which brings to the top what the majority already know about. I see it as a mirror held in front of its readers that says “give yourself a tap on the back, you like the same things as we do”.
Niche, fun, knowledgeable, or creative blogs are the ones of interest to me so categories like “Local photo blogs we like and invite you to check”, or “Local historical blogs you could give a shot”, or “Local food blogs that don’t take themselves too seriously” is something I would like to see, one day. What do you think? Feature 3 to 5 names, not ranked, and not to be featured the year after that. Let’s push it even more: keep the votes… but slash the top 30% because everybody knows about them already, get some editorial guts and hand-pick the rest. Boom.
So that’s how I would make it… useful. But of course, the other option would be to stuff the ballots with some outlandish choices to at least make it fun! Wait, is that what you are doing? Well played, Chuck, well played.
