K-Chuck Radio: Open the windows on a sunshine Saturday!

It’s Saturday morning.  You’re climbing out of bed, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes, and getting ready to face the morning with a dazzling smile.

And instinctively, you open up the Venetian blinds.  YOW!! SUNSHINE!!!

It’s gonna be a good day.

So let’s have a K-Chuck Radio with a ton of great summery pop songs, shall we?

And let’s start with:

WAR
Groovin’

Yes, this is the same “WAR” that had hits like “The Cisco Kid” and “Why Can’t We Be Friends?”, and in the mid-1980’s they had an easy listening smash with this cover of the Rascals’ hit.  And yes, WAR actually mixed in a few bars of their early hit “All Day Music” into the groove.

TAVARES
Heaven (Must Be Missing An Angel)

Another group that had a ton of hits in the 1970’s, Tavares’ “Heaven (Must Be Missing An Angel)” is just a fantastic dance track.  I’ve heard it about a hundred thousand times and it never gets old.

BUTTERSCOTCH
Don’t You Know (She Said Hello)

A Top 20 U.K. hit from the early 1970’s, Butterscotch may have been a one-hit wonder, but man what a hit they had!

THE FLYING CIRCUS
La La

No, it’s not THAT Flying Circus. This Australian pop band had a major hit Down Under with this piece of 1969 sunshine pop.

THE SWEET THREE
I Would If I Could

They may have been one of the anonymous harmony groups to filter through 309 South Broad Street in Philadelphia, the studios of Cameo-Parkway Records. But this song found a life of its own as a dancefloor-packing track at all the clubs in Northern England. That’s right, kids… I’ve got some Northern Soul for you. Enjoy.

THE CAKE
You Can Have Him

Some fantastic Spectorpop “Wall of Sound” on this track. This group could have given the Shangri-La’s and the Ronettes a run for their money.

THE WINSTONS
Color Him Father

The first of two “honor your parents” clips. This was the Winstons’ biggest hit, the B-side of this 45, “Amen,” featured a drum track that has been sampled millions of times by hip-hop artists worldwide.

THE INTRUDERS
I’ll Always Love My Mama

A great Philadelphia R&B/soul group, The Intruders were part of the Philadelphia International sound of the 1970’s (Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, the O’Jay’s, the Three Degrees). The Intruders had several hits in the 1960’s, this was their biggest hit of the 1970’s.

THE INTRUDERS
Hey Hey

Now THIS batch of Intruders aren’t from Philadelphia. They’re from Scotia-Glenville High School, and they recorded this song – “Hey Hey” – in 1964 at the WRGB studios.

PEACH UNION
On My Own

The group is known as “Peach” throughout the rest of the world, but apparently there’s a “Peach” group in the United States, so for this song “On My Own” to be released in America, the recording group rebranded themselves as “Peach Union.”

JIGSAW
Sky High

It’s 1975 and WPTR is playing the hell out of this song. Every single hour on the hour. And it still wasn’t enough spins. This song was fantastic.

See? Now you’re in a great mood, the sun is shining and the birds are singing – get out there and have a great day, courtesy of K-Chuck Radio!
