So I’m really getting into the Game of Thrones television series. I really never thought I could enjoy a fantasy drama series, but I gotta hand it to HBO – they really pulled it off and it looks fantastic.
Now I know there’s plenty of tie-ins with Game of Thrones – you can go to HBO’s website and buy T-shirts and figurines and the like. And even though Game of Thrones plays out like a detailed version of the board game Risk – I do understand that the Free City of Pentos is almost like Australia in that it’s the easiest to defend against – I kinda wondered if another board game would fit the Game of Thrones universe.
That’s right. I want a Game of Thrones Monopoly set.
Now the website io9 came up with a fantastic Monopoly – er, Throneopoly – board game, complete with board, tokens and the like. Their stuff is pretty funny. Go look.
At the same time, independent of the io9 website, I went to a place called Sign Generator and mocked up some Community Chest and Chance cards – and came up with these. Just for laughs and giggles.

I love the fact that HBO has left the entire first season available on demand…New fans of the show can catch up without missing anything.Also, it allows us to go back and review…something that just about everyone has to do after each weeks new episode.

Hilarious! Different countries often have versions of Monopoly for their countries. For example, I had a British version that used London, a German version that used Berlin and a Danish version that used Copenhagen.
It was cool because you could use it to understand what was a good vs. not so good area because it was in the spot of, for example, Boardwalk or Baltic Avenue.
So what would be Boardwalk and what would be Baltic Avenue in GoT?…

I’d probably make the Boardwalk King’s Landing, with Qarth being Park Place. Mediterranean and Baltic – possibly Harrenhal and the Pyke?

Yippee!!! That’s going on my list.
I read all of the books between last season and this one and it’s hard to not tell my husband and friends what’s going to happen.
I love the actress they got for Brienne, 6 foot 3! One of my favorite parts of the books are her scenes with another character, which should start next episode.

See, I’d put King’s Landing at Park Place but Casterly Rock as Boardwalk, either Pyke or Dragonstone or both somewhere in the Mediterranean/Baltic zone. But I’m keeping on Westeros.
Alternately, Riverrun would make an awesome, awesome Boardwalk or Park Place as well, at least from the books. (Not being a “trivia mind,” toooootally had to look up the right names in The Game of Thrones Wiki. 🙂 )

See, that puts Winterfell as the most expensive, verdant, desirable, etc.
Winterfell is cool, but it’s not wealthy and luxurious like Casterly Rock or Riverrun. I got the impression from the books that Riverrun would be closest to Boardwalk. Winterfell really struck me as a red-to-orange place, despite the utter awesomeness of the characters.
As for the railroads, why not the rivers? E.g. “Blackwater Rush.” Also could do the Kingsroad.
Utilities would be hard. White raven would correlate well to telephone, but there’s no telephone utility on a Monopoly board. If you did just useful items, “Valaryan steel” could be a utility.
Could also do areas in King’s Landing, but I don’t think there’s enough description of the neighborhoods for that.

Yeah, it isn’t perfect, but I went on the basis that the Starks are the central figures so their cities are most important.
