My normal commute from the Town/Village to Albany is usually around 10 minutes, 15 if there’s rush hour traffic.
On Tuesday night, it was a white-knuckle ride all the way home.
You wanna see?
I got the video footage right here.
Now to my credit, my Saturn Ion Cardachrome performed like a champ. The new tires got me through the worst of the storm without any slipping, sliding or hydroplaning.
But the next time I have to drive through a storm like this, I’m not using this dinky RCA Small Wonder video cam. No. I gotta save up and get me a GoPro. And another GorillaPod tripod. Both hands on the wheel, 10 and 2, Chuck…
Chuck, I’m not sure if you are brave or crazy. I’m watching and Praying for you at the same time!

With the invent of airbags, the new hand positions are 8-4. Don’t want you to end up punching yourself in the face!

Wow ! You asked for a name for that kind of weather…Ark Contemplator!
I was SO glad it wasn’t me behind the wheel! For once I was grateful to be out on medical disability and not on the highway! I have to hand it to you, I’m a lady through and through, but I KNOW my commentary would have been peppered with those words that the TU doesn’t allow !!!!!!! I may have even uttered a few while watching…maybe…OK, I DID !

Wow – I am sitting here with my palms sweating & heart pounding. Sorry, but I’m glad it wasn’t me …. Made it home just before the skies opened – HATE driving in a storm !

That’s nothing Chuck. As a life long NY’er I’ve seen worse. Once-25 years ago I drove the Northway in a blizzard and didn’t know it was closed! I got off of work in Loudonville, got on at Exit 4 (which was plowed) but couldn’t get off until I was past Saratoga (like exit 15 or 16)). None of the exit ramps were plowed open! Oh did I mention I lived off Exit 9 at the time? Not only were none of the exit ramps plowed, I spent an hour or two helping some other poor schmuck push his car back onto the road from the center ditch about 20 feet off the highway.
