K-Chuck Radio: 1970’s Forgotten Hits!!

I truly am a child of the 1970’s.  The music, the television shows, the culture, it’s all part of who I am and what I’ve achieved.

So on today’s edition of K-Chuck Radio, I’m going to bless your ears with ten classic hits from the 1970’s – classic monster songs that were big hits back then, but today have been completely forgotten.  Trust me.  You’re probably going to go maybe three, four songs into the playlist and then you’re going to say, “Hokey smokes, Chuck, where did you find that song?”

So let’s start with…

STARZ
Cherry Baby

This Philadelphia-based rock band was managed by Bill Aucoin, the same guy who managed Kiss. Unfortunately, this was the only hit Starz would ever generate.

SILVER
Wham Bam (Shang-a-Lang)

I don’t really know too much about this band, except that they had this one hit that was played TO DEATH on WPTR and WTRY.  TO DEATH!!!

STARBUCK
Moonlight Feels Right

Ladies and gentlemen, the only Top 10 hit in the rock and roll era to feature – yes it does – a xylophone solo!!

SNIFF ‘N THE TEARS
Driver’s Seat

I really wish I could enjoy this song without having mental images of Lia Hyundai cars.

SANTA ESMERELDA
Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood

You want an example of a remake that is better than the original version?  The original version was a slow rocker by Eric Burdon and the Animals.  Pales in comparison to this Latin-infused version.

SILVER CONVENTION
Fly, Robin, Fly

Okay.  They’re kinda cute, and they can kinda dance.  And as long as they’re only singing 14 words at a time…

JIGSAW
Fly High

Loved this song.  Loved loved loved loved it.  Apparently it’s the opening theme from a film called The Man From Hong Kong, a martial arts film that was co-produced in Hong Kong and in Australia, and is considered an iconic piece of Australian cinema.  Meh.  I just love the song.  Probably won’t ever see the movie.

THE SWEET
Fox On The Run

Yeah.  This was when the Sweet figured out that they could be rockers and not just glam rockers.  Awesome Top 40 song.

HEATWAVE
Boogie Nights

And finally, we gotta have some Heatwave in this mix.  I had three songs to choose from for this band; I eventually decided to go with “Boogie Nights.”  Classic funk rock dance track.
