Two engagements, an anniversary and the playoffs!

Those of you who follow my blog know that I have a solid core of friends who are part of my Street Academy trivia team. They include my best bud Jeremy McNamara – who has been part of my team for longer than any other teammate I’ve ever had – as well as his friend and geography trivia expert, Katie Kurtessis. And over time, I’ve had teammates come and go, go and come, stay for a while and drift away.

So bear with me if I update the news on what happened to four of my trivia teammates – four men and women who not only helped win Trivia Bowl accolades, but who now have moved on to bigger and better things.

Let’s start with Alexis Curry. Sorry, I meant to say Alexis White. Old habits die hard, I guess. Anyways, today is her one-year anniversary as Mrs. James White, and I wish them all the wonderful success in the world. She texted me a picture of her new baby. Kid’s cuter than a kitten with a ball of yarn. She and James are happy, too.

You might remember Marc Pallozzi, he was on my team when we won Trivia Bowl 6. Marc was part of the “Marc and Anthony” trivia hosting crew at Revolution Hall, and he and Anthony later hosted a game at Meka’s Lounge on River Street in Troy. Well, last month Marc proposed to his girlfriend Talia Ashworth, she accepted and they’re setting a date. Dude is also a very proud UAlbany alum, so he’s probably dancing on the head of a pin over how well the UAlbany women’s basketball team is doing.

Almost a year ago, my Street Academy trivia teammate Tracey Stein, who helped my team claim Trivia Bowl III, was finishing up a track meet in Florida when her boyfriend Walter Choroco dropped down on one knee and handed her a ring. Yep. He proposed, she said yes, and they’re planning their future together. Congratulations to them, I know they’re both going to be happy for years to come.

Dennis Truax was on that Street Academy team that helped win Trivia Bowl III. I don’t have to report on any engagements with D-Tru, he’s been happily married for years. But what I can report is that he has a different type of engagement, as of last night. A playoff engagement.

See, Dennis was hired as the interim head coach of the National Basketball League of Canada’s Moncton Miracles, after the previous head coach was fired in mid-season. With the team’s backs to the wall, and needing to win their last five games to even get a playoff berth, Truax coached the Miracles to five straight wins, and yesterday Moncton’s playoff berth was mathematically locked in.

What can I say? Street Academy trivia teammates are winners throughout. And happiness and success follows them throughout the rest of their days.

Can’t go wrong with that.
