The Fagbug meets Equality House

It’s no secret that I am a fan and supporter of Erin Davies and her Fagbug, the rainbow-painted Volkswagen Beetle that stands as a symbol of support and pride against bigotry and homophobia.

Well, the Fagbug has traveled the country over the past few years, and recently it made a swing through Topeka, Kansas.

Topeka is the home of the Westboro Baptist Church.  Yeah.  The ones that picket and protest at military funerals, the ones that seem to base their entire mission on statements like “God Hates Fags.”  Idiots.

Well, a few weeks ago, someone purchased a house across the street from the Westboro Baptist Church’s headquarters.  And they decided to paint this house in rainbow colors and fly a rainbow flag, to show tolerance and equality in clear view of a place of intolerance and derisiveness.  Thus began Equality House.

And when Erin Davies drove her Fagbug through the neighborhood…

The photo opportunity just presented itself.

I promised Erin on Facebook that if she took any pictures with the Fagbug in that area, I would post them on this blog.

She took pictures.

And I will gladly keep up my end of the deal.

So congratulations to the Fagbug for continuing its mission of support and equality.

And I’ve said this before… and I’ll say it again.

When the Fagbug finally drives its final mile, I hope that the car gets a place of honor at The Henry Ford Museum, where some of the greatest and most legendary automobiles are stored and preserved for all to see and to enjoy.  Heck, maybe even park the Fagbug next to the Henry Ford Museum’s other legendary acquisition of triumph over intolerance.
