It’s Thursday, and you know what that means. As the Times Union’s print edition continues to ignore the efforts of our community bloggers at the expense of promoting their staff bloggers, once again I issue the clarion call and support my fellow hardworking community bloggers. So it’s my pleasure to show ten more examples of the best writing from the Times Union’s collection of community bloggers. This week’s list of blog treasures are:
- Michael Connors, the Comptroller of Albany County, “Hero Lt. Colonel Todd Clark Paid the Ultimate Price For Our Freedom.“
- Sonja Stark’s “Pilotgirl” blog, “Germany: Brush Up on Your Denglish.”
- Roger Green’s “Information Without the Bun” blog, “Luv ‘n Haight (with apologies to Daniel Nester)“
- Mary Martin’s “A Good Enough Life” blog, “Love on The Rebound: A Story in Two Parts.” That’s Part 1, and here’s Part 2.
- Rachel Baum’s “Bark” dog training blog, “This is NOT about Dogs in Hot Cars.“
- Professor Warren Roberts, “What Politics Could Learn from a Basketball Coach.“
- Lawrence White, the Guns blog, “This Time it is Santa Monica.”
- Stephanie Snyder, “A Professor’s Wife” blog, “Nursery Decor with a Personal Touch.“
- Reyna Eisenstark’s “Collected Stories” blog, “Dip.“
- Akum Norder’s “A History of Here” blog, “One of the Saddest Drowning Calamities in the Vicinity of Albany.“
And there you have it. Ten more blogs by ten hardworking Times Union community bloggers. Read them and enjoy.
I know I have.
This is a nice feature, Chuck.
Several years ago, the TU seemed very interested in developing the blog section. They held gatherings for the bloggers, hosted that big shindig at St. Rose — the “community bloggers” were kind of a big deal. Now? Not so much.
It’s unfortunate that they don’t have the same commitment to you guys anymore; to me the biggest example of this is that the community blogs are not accessible on the TU’s mobile app.
Anyway, thanks for pointing out some worthy reads. Somebody’s gotta do it.

Lawrence White on a Best of list?! Really?! I used to read his blog…and he has at best a minimal familiarity with guns and even less knowledge of gun laws. The only reason I can see why the TU lets him write a gun blog is because he hates guns and will work for free. I’d rather read another Collarworld story as another of his repetitive posts.

Since I barely have time to blog anymore, mush less read and follow other blogs, I think I just need to come here on Thursday for your Best of edition!

Thanks, Chuck.
You know what’s ever so slightly annoying? Ever since the TU stopped featuring folks in the print version – and I got my share of mentions over that time – people have asked if I’m still blogging. This oddly has had the effect of being less enthusiastic about blogging here, especially since I still write at rogerogreen.com (every day for 8 years).
