K-Chuck Radio: A Sonic Hodgepodge

Today, rather than compile ten YouTube clips that center around an artist or theme, I just felt like putting together ten clips that will simply blow your mind.

Case in point.

ARMADILLO
Aves del Valle

This trippy band from Colombia created this animated music video, and synchronized it with sounds and imagery of their homeland. Awesome stuff.

THE CHARLIE WATTS RIOTS
Bottom

Listen, if the guy who develops my film at McGreevy Pro Lab can perform in a rock band with a song like this, heck yeah I’m going to promote it in my blog. Wouldn’t you?

APRYLL AILEEN STANSFIELD
Hey Sugar

I’ve known Apryll for years, she works with the Saint John Mill Rats of the National Basketball League of Canada. And now she’s branching out with her first song. Take a listen, it’s pretty good.

THROWING TOASTERS
Bad Influence

The gimmick with this band is that although it’s a four-piece band, for some reason three of the members have problems making it to live gigs. As in… they’ve NEVER appeared at a live gig. So that means that Grant, the lead guitarist, gets to perform all the songs and achieve all the accolades.

BLOTTO
Metal Head

Has it really been 30 years since this song was first recorded? Damn, I feel old…

INNOCENCE IN DANGER
Innocence in Danger

Well, here’s a blast from my college radio days. At some point in time, this group called Innocence in Danger was going to have a big big Top 40 hit called Innocence in Danger. And then, out of the blue, the group got dropped by the record company. And they just disappeared. Well, they didn’t disappear that far… I still can add them to this edition of K-Chuck Radio.

THE RIGHT TRACK
You Gotta Move with the Groove

If you’ve never heard true deep funk before… put the speakers next to your ears and groove down with this jam.

THE ASTEROIDS GALAXY TOUR
The Sun Ain’t Shining No More

This was the theme music for InSecurity, a Canadian sitcom I used to enjoy. So if you’ve only known this group from their Heineken commercials…

NIRVANA
Love Buzz // Big Cheese

If you’ve only known this group from their hits “Smells Like Teen Spirit” or “Heart Shaped Box,” you have to hear how this band started. “Love Buzz” was a remake of the Shocking Blue 1970’s track, and it sounds like Kurt Cobain is on a launching pad and just pressed the GO FAST AS HELL button.

J. MASCIS
Leaving on a Jet Plane

Dinosaur Jr. frontman J. Mascis copied this John Denver / Peter Paul & Mary track and added his own dose of sonic crunch to it. Awesome stuff.

So what do these ten songs have in common?

Hey, this is K-Chuck Radio. They don’t have to have ANYTHING in common other than that they’re great songs and you should hear them and enjoy them.

Especially on a nice Saturday morning like today.
