Last week was a big three-stage boost for my “We Are Your Nemesis … Fear Us!” trivia team. We took the overall win last week and earned the $20 “Ruck Bucks” certificate, so that’s a major plus. And in the overall cumulative standings, we’re now in third place among all Ruck teams, and tenth place among all squads that are participating in the “Catch the Mania” tournament.
Week 3:
1 Unwed Fathers (The Ruck) 75+76+78 76.333 2 Short Bus (Bayou Café) 73+78+75 75.333 3 Niagara (Bayou Café) 71+78+76 75.000 4 Tri-Lambs (Bayou Café) 77+79+66 74.000 5 E is for Idiot (Bayou Café) 61+78+81 73.333 6 Ghengis Khangaroo (Bayou Café) 69+7+76 73.333 7 More Cowbell (The Ruck) 68+75+75 72.667 8 Aminos (Bayou Café) 72 72.000 9 Magic 8 Ball (Circus Café) 71+69+75 71.667 10 We Are Your Nemesis ... Fear Us! (The Ruck) 69+65+80 71.333
Wow. Lots of teams charting from the Bayou Café. ‘Don’t matter. We’re in the Top 10 and we’re going to rise up the charts like a Justin Timberlake single.
Unfortunately, for Round 4 we fell faster than a Joey Fatone single. After scoring well in the first round, we stumbled a bit on the second round.
The third round was our music round, which is usually our strong suit. Unfortunately, this time it wasn’t “name the song and the artist.”
This time it was “name the next set of lyrics when I cut off the song.”
Are you kidding me? We’ve gone from playing trivia to doing this??
We did all right in that round. But then the next few rounds – one on the category of weather, one on fitness and exercise terminology – kicked our collective butts.
And by the end of the night, I understood the term “mulligan round.”
In this tournament, if we play all sixteen rounds, we are allowed to toss out our two worst rounds, essentially our “mulligan rounds.” And tonight… was definitely a mulligan round for us.
In situations like this… you just grit your teeth, say have a Happy Thanksgiving to the host – and get ready for next week.
Which we will.
And that’s all you can do.
Ehh, these trivia blog posts have lost their zeal. As have the actual trivia games as team Nemesis. Woo Hoo games at Elbo Room are fun. Bucket’s of $1.50 beers, at least 7 close friends laughing, an actual half time where us deviants dance together, the thrill of the come from behind win and making fun of the host. Ruck games feel more like a chore. Read the question on the screen, write down an answer, repeat. I may be approaching the end of this All-star team experiment. And it doesn’t help when All-star teammates play elsewhere instead. Yes, D357niner, i am calling you out.

No need to call me out…I never said I was going to go to Troy EVERY week. I already have a regular Monday night triv gig. I’m not an All-Star, think of me more as a Special Guest Star. Of course, the game being so lame, with a DJ or VJ playing a .pps instead of actually hosting a game like we usually enjoy doesn’t make me miss it.
I would have replied sooner but since this new blog format sucks so bad I missed your comment.
