Week 7 of the 2013-14 “Catch the Mania” trivia tournament at the Ruck

Comet.

Comet, already.

The answer is freakin’ Comet.

This is what happened last night at the “Catch the Mania” trivia tournament at the Ruck.  Mind you, my Ruck-specific “Nemesis” team did quite well for ourselves, getting perfect rounds in the “Holiday Movies” and “TV Families” categories.  We finished high enough to win another prize, and we are playing good solid trivia at just the right time.

But the answer is Comet.

And we weren’t allowed to give the answer.

At one point during the game, three teams tied by hitting a perfect round.  Those three teams were eligible for a Ruck coupon for a wing-burger and a pint of beer.  All they had to do was send one representative from each squad to the host’s table, where trivia host Scott Mumford would ask one question.  The person who correctly answered the question first would receive the coupon.

“What is the name of Santa’s fifth reindeer?”

All three representatives looked at Scott as if he had just pulled a rabbit out of a hat.  No answers.  There wasn’t even a half-hearted attempt to sing the dang “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” song from any of them.

One of the representatives meekly replied… “Blitzen?”

The other two were still thinking.

Wow.

After what seemed like an hour and a half, the host gave the gift certificate to the person who said “Blitzen,” because, as he said, “He was closest to the right answer.”

Good thing he didn’t say that the reindeer’s name was Olive… as in “Olive, the other reindeer…”

Still, we finished with a respectable 73 points on the night, ahead of teams like the Troyale Family and the Uncles, and just behind teams like More Cowbell and the Unwed Fathers, as well as a new team calling themselves “Megyn Kelly is White… Fact.”

And this is the week where teams who only showed up once during the tournament are going to be eliminated from the final tournament week by the dreaded attendance rule.  You must show up for at least ten of sixteen weeks, or you are ineligible to participate in the finals.  So all these teams who chose their name because someone famous died that week… I guess your fame was just as fleeting.  Har.

So let’s see what next week brings.  Maybe the question will involve how many of Santa’s reindeer used to laugh and call Rudolph names.
