We’re starting to jell as a team, this group of all-stars called the “We Are Your Nemesis … Fear Us!” squad. And so long as we keep putting our heads together, we can continue to win.
And one thing I want to get rid of is a score of 52. We scored that earlier this year, and it’s been holding us down in the overall standings – we’re third among all teams at The Ruck, but the 52 is like a score from a Russian figure skating judge. It keeps weighing us down. However, if we can show up for all sixteen weeks of the “Catch the Mania” trivia tournament, then we can toss our two lowest scores. And that means…. that “52” score will get pitched faster than a deck of playing cards in a game of 52-pickup.
We did well this week, keeping ourselves in a solid third place as “More Cowbell” and “Unwed Fathers” kept the top two positions in the tournament. We put some serious distance between the Troyale Family and the Uncles, which is fine in that only the top three teams from each bar are guaranteed a place in the final tournament.
This week, we had to deal with a bit of a variable. Trivia host Scott Mumford was under the weather, so he sent a replacement host to handle trivia duties. That’s fine. Except for one thing. The replacement host forgot to bring the flags.
With this trivia company, teams can request a hint by waiving small 10-cent American flags. If a majority of people raise their flags, then the host gives an obscure – or completely oblique – hint. But without the flags, the host had to rely on a show of hands for hints. Oh well. It’s Christmastime. Maybe we should have all waived Christmas ornaments or something.
We’re halfway through this tournament, and if we can keep on winning – or at least staying in the Top 3 – we should have no problem getting through to the final round.
We just have to get there.
