We’re still in third place among the Ruck teams in this trivia tournament, and that guarantees us a spot in the finals. But we have to maintain at least this third place spot, and keep teams like the Troyale Family, Hammertime, the Uncles and others in our rear view mirror.
And last night, we did just that – thanks to some surprise guests on the Nemesis team.
First off, we had our regulars at the table for the Ruck – Donna, Jeremy, Matt, and myself – but the additional guests came from Matt’s other trivia team, Woo Hoo a Go Go. Matt invited them to the Ruck for the game, and sure enough they showed up.
Now I can tell you this – when I played over at Elbo Room, Woo Hoo a Go Go was one of the tough teams to face. In fact, Woo Hoo and Team Fist – the two remaining teams at the Elbo Room during that bar’s current raffle-ticket tournament – have won nearly every round of trivia during this year’s tournament run. So it was nice to have them over at the Ruck as teammates rather than as adversaries – even if it was only for one week.
And boy, did our super-team kick some serious super-tail. First round – the miscellaneous round – we hit nine out of ten, as did More Cowbell and Unwed Fathers, the two teams ahead of us. We remained tied through three rounds, and then the Cowbells began to falter. In the fourth round, we and the Unwed Fathers finished with nine points, while the Cowbells only could muster seven.
Now it’s down to the wire. Ten points for us – ten points for the Unwed Fathers. Sixteen points in a final, tough round 7 for us – sixteen points in round 7 for the Unwed Fathers. We both finished the night with 82 points – and a tiebreaker was needed to determine who would earn the $20 in Ruck Bucks, the grand prize for winning on the night.
Two representatives from the Nemesis team. Two representatives from the Unwed Fathers team. What was it going to be? Staring contest? Rock-paper-scissors? Dance off Pants off?
Nope. One question. Closest to correct wins.
“How fast is the speed of light?”
They scribbled an answer. I scribbled an answer.
The host read the results. “Unwed Fathers said 1.75 miles per second, We Are Your Nemesis Fear Us said 186,000 miles per second… which is exactly right, Nemesis wins!”
Yeah. In addition to generating a team-high 82 out of 90 points last night… we got the Ruck Bucks, bay bee.
So much thanks to the crew at Woo Hoo a Go Go for coming to the game tonight and helping us out. As well as much thanks to my trivia teammates for a great team victory and some Ruck Bucks for next week.
The momentum is swinging our way. And we’re getting closer to the March finals. Bring. It. On.
