Okay, this is just ten levels of ewwww…
According to the website PetaPixel.com, which in turn came from a UPI report, a high school student in Alabama went on a field trip with her classmates to the University of Alabama at Birmingham anatomy lab.
It should be noted that the anatomy lab contains several medical cadavers, which are donated by family members in the interests of medical research. After the bodies are examined and studied and the students are able to perform their medical research, the bodies are then part of an end-of-semester memorial service for the donor families. Very tasteful and very dignified.
Well, somehow this student didn’t get the hint. Because at one point during her visit to the facility, despite warnings from facility staff that such an action would be terribly inappropriate, she quickly pulled the sheet off of one of the covered cadavers, warmed up her cell phone, and – yep – took a selfie with the cadaver and shared the photo on Instagram.
The photo was later removed from the student’s Instagram account, but not before a copy of it was captured and sent to the local authorities. At this moment, disciplinary action is being considered against the student.

So what we have here, my fellow blog readers… is someone who thought it would be a cool thing to take a picture of themselves with a dead body. Ha ha ha, hey gang guess what, I’m hanging out at the cadaver lab, I’m a regular CSI techie, ha ha ha!
Whatever kind of education this person has garnered… apparently common sense and human decency weren’t things she learned. Not to mention the fact that she disrespected the family who donated their loved one’s remains; she disrespected the University of Alabama at Birmingham, she disrespected her high school and she just plain disrespected life in general.
I’m sorry… I saw this story this morning and it just made me sick to my stomach.

I hope this stupid woman is never admitted to medical school or any health profession. I cannot believe that kind of disrespect for the deceased and his/her family. Disciplinary action of some sort SHOULD be taken. she not only embarrassed herself but her school and the host school. Medical students treat the bodies with great respect. This stupid child embarrassed everyone. These kids get so wrapped up in their tech toys they don’t think.

I hope she is expelled. Amazing that someone over the age of 5 would exhibit such bad judgment, especially after being warned that it was inappropriate. That goes beyond garden variety stupidity and becomes callous disregard.

I am a medical profession and 2 semesters of anatomy lab were part of our training. We received a lecture regarding the bodies prior to starting and treating them with respect, dignity, etc for their (and their families) sacrifice for the sake of our education. High school studies obviously as a whole do not have the maturity level for this and this student has probably ruined a great learning opportunity for all her peers (and future classes as well). disgusting behavior. She and her parents should be completely embarrassed and ashamed.

The kid is no genius, but whose brainiac idea is it to take a high school class to a freaking morgue? What high school curriculum requires that? What high school course studies dead human bodies?
The student should be disciplined, obviously, but this “field trip” seems to be a a pointless exercise with no connection to the work the students do in class.
And what about the chaperones? How does a student split from the group long enough to take a photo with a dead body?

Did your high school not teach biology Jango? It seems that this field trip would tie in with that curriculum, plus it may spark a student’s interest (not the immature selfie-taker obviously) into pursuing that field further in college and/or professionally.

Yeah, I took regents biology, I seem to forget the chapter on corpses, maybe that was added later.
The curriculum should be reviewed by the PTA, because I can see absolutely no educational value that can be derived by taking teenagers to a morgue. A student’s interest in medicine can be more substantially encouraged by taking them to nursing homes, long term care facilities, maternity wards, or even terminal wards where children or adults with fatal conditions are dealing with their conditions and are still very much alive.
The teacher was showing off, it has nothing to do with preparing teenagers for a career in the sciences or medicine.

This story speaks volumes about this particular generation of people, young people, that seem to have little respect for boundaries and common decency. This young lady is also from the generation that uses technology (Facebook,Twitter, etc.) to harass, humiliate and intimidate others. Why would a cadaver seem off limits?
Somewhere along the line (us, as adults) the kid has been failed. She hasn’t been taught the right things, obviously.
