Every year, as the summer arrives, I gather my pictures together for Altamont. I blog about the experiences, about the entries, and eventually about the results. From my first competition in 2009 to last year’s first-place win for The Jumbuck, I’ve blogged about the highs and the lows, the happiness and the heartache, and all of you have been along for the ride.
This year… I want you to enter your pictures in the competition.
The 2014 Altamont Fair Fine Arts competition form can be accessed by clicking this link. Within this competition, you can enter your photographs, your watercolors, your paintings or any other particular media of your choice. You can win money, you can earn ribbons, you can show off your best artworks to your family and friends.
Some of you are saying, “Oh man I’ve got to get in on this. What do I need to do? What should I enter?”
You should enter your four best pictures. Whatever photos you’ve taken, whatever subject that would be appropriate in a family-friendly environment. Print them, frame them, and bring them to the Fairgrounds on Acceptance Day. Then, you can go to the Fair and see how your images did among all the entries. You should do this. It will be fun.
And some of you are saying, “Chuck, this is all well and good, but I don’t have one of those fancy-schmancy cameras like you have. I do have this iPhone, though…”
Well, this year there’s a special category for pictures that were taken with a smartphone. Yep, whether you’ve got an iPhone or an Android or a BlackBerry, you can enter those same photos that you would normally send to Instagram to this competition. Six “smartphone” photos will win awards as well.
Oh, and by the way – if you enter two pictures into the Fine Arts competition, you receive one complimentary fair ticket (rides excluded). So if you enter four pictures, you can bring a guest to the Fair for free. It would make for a great time, trust me.
Of course, the best thing to remember about this competition is that it’s a great opportunity to share your love of photography and art with your friends, your family, and your fellow fair attendees. So download the form, get your best photos, and I hope your best pictures win money and ribbons when the Fair opens in August.
