Is it morning yet?
Have we seen any grass or flowers yet?
Has a dove flown back with an olive branch in its beak?
No? Well, I guess that means winter is still in our lives.
But you know what else is in our lives?
This recap of ten great blogs by ten great Times Union community bloggers.
And I’ll let you in on a secret. I’ve heard that there’s been at least one or two instances where one of the community bloggers actually encouraged a second community blogger to get back to the computer and compose a blog – in other words, now I’ve got TU community bloggers inspiring each other to write great blogs.
Which – as far as I’m concerned – is fantastic. This is what I’ve been asking for all along – to show that our community bloggers are actually a COMMUNITY. We look out for each other, we cheer each others’ posts, we want to get each others’ works read and enjoyed by the people.
And that feels great.
So let’s get started, shall we? Let’s share ten awesome entries by ten awesome TU community bloggers. And they include:
- Fran Rossi Szpylczyn’s “There Will Be Bread” blog, “Staying and Going – A Lenten Journey.” (Read this one first.)
- Dan Lyons’ “Classic Cars” blog, “Rear View Mirror: 1953 Buick Roadmaster Convertible.“
- Ken Screven’s blog, “All they really needed was Stevie.“
- Gillian Scott in the “Outdoors” blog, “The anchovy of the Adirondack High Peaks.“
- Brian Huba’s’ “The Cat’s Pajamas” blog, “The handshake that never was.“
- Roger Green’s “Information Without the Bun” blog, “Living in a Dumpster: a sociological experiment.“
- Christopher Marblo’s “Arts Center of the Capital Region” blog, “The exclusive arts.“
- Stephanie Snyder’s “A Professor’s Wife” blog, “When parenting is one part of life.“
- Sara Rose Wheeler’s “Roaring Twenties” blog, “He always told me to ‘Wise Up.’“
- Sonja Stark’s “PilotGirl” blog, “Day hike at Santa Rosa Plateau.“
And there you have it. Some good reading and some thought-provoking articles for your Thursday and for the rest of the week.
And remember… if you find yourself reading a blog by someone whose works you’ve not previously experienced, feel free to leave him or her a note in the comments section. I’m sure it will be appreciated.
Okay. Time to get out there and greet the world with a dazzling smile. Or at least one that’s above freezing.
I knew you’d have SCREVEN here, and rightly so

Yay! Thanks, Chuck! Though I’m still living in the parenting column… hmm… someone give me a little push to the left, eh? Huber?

You should do your best Beyonce imitation. “To the left, to the left… someone at the TU move my blog to the left…”

Jango Davis’ Ye Olde Zombie Blog (not to be confused with Thomas Jefferson’s fatherhood blog for founding fathers who had sex with their slaves and sold their children into slavery blog):
I ask you this dear readers – how difficult is it to write 250 words a month? Just 250 simple words on a platform offered up by what is arguably the single major print news source in the Capitol Region.
Let’s face it, the only time anyone picks up the Troy Record is when it’s sitting on something else they would rather read. The Schenectady Gazette only gets a mention by name-droppers who don’t read the paper themselves, the reporters only use it as a way station to a better gig and its circulation is in the tank.
The Times Union gave the people below the privilege of writing in this medium and they can’t even squeak out 250 words a month.

After entering the Zombie Blog list last month, Donna Liquori bails on The Book Blog (too busy for 250 words a month Donna?). For one, I think this blog should be buried. It gets among the least comments and I’m going to guess the least hits. The contributors usually promote some totally obscure novel where sad people sit around in a field of rhetorical dandelions discussing some crap no one cares about. Not even the contributors can pretend to maintain any interest in the blog – do they really expect the readers will do so when they can’t?
The Virtual Zombie Blog award goes to the Parent2 Parent blog, Tracey announced on the “On The Edge” blog that she and Jenn “really aren’t using the P2P blog anymore, but had the comments set up to be approved automatically.”
Thanks ladies – proving once again that motherhood is the world’s most difficult job – in your mind.

And finally, The What in the name of Mr. Spock’s jockey strap is Huber thinking award
The House of Hoops somehow managed to linger on for 11 months without a single post and Medved is allowed back. Great, thanks Huber – I mean there are so few sports blogs that we absolutely needed to keep the House of Hoops on life support for nearly a year.
Now, going 9 months strong without a single post – former journalist Erin what’s her name has been so busy managing the burgeoning economy of downtown troy she simply has not been able to fart out 250 words promoting her BID with free PR reaching thousands of eyes every day.
Due to all that, I find the title of the last Troy BID blog “Troy Eats Crow” very apropos.
