As I’m waking up this morning, and trying to figure out why my wristwatch says 7:00 a.m. and the clock on my Time Warner Cable converter says 8:00 a.m…
Oh yeah… Daylight Saving Time kicked in.
Well, I’m not going to do a K-Chuck Radio blog post about ten songs that count the time, I think I did one of those a while back. But I am going to write a blog post that will contain ten songs to relax to. You know, just lounge around while your body is still adjusting to the change in time. Such as…
SHERBET
Silvery Moon
The Australian pop band had several hits Down Under, with one of them – “Howzat!” – actually cracking into the Top 40 in America. This one, however, is actually a nice little relaxing romantic ballad. And the song’s good, too.
AMERICA
Ventura Highway
I could list about 20 different America songs on this post… this one is a cool track with its guitar-hook intro and the build to the chorus.
GENESIS
The Silent Sun
You don’t recognize this Genesis song? Maybe it’s because this was the FIRST Genesis song, when their producer at the time tried to reconfigure their sound into an ersatz Bee Gees / Chad & Jeremy pastiche. Good thing they didn’t stick with this, eh?
FIREFALL
Just Remember I Love You
Firefall had several soft-rock hits in the 70’s, this was one of my faves. Smooth like glass.
ODYSSEY
Our Lives Are Shaped By What We Love
No, this isn’t the same Odyssey of “Native New Yorker” fame, this is a group who was part of Motown’s experimental MoWest recording label.
THE FLYING PICKETS
Only You
This was a song originally recorded by the synth-pop duo Yaz(oo), and this British a cappella group turned it into a hit of their own.
PETER SARSTEDT
Where Do You Go To, My Lovely?
I think this was Sarstedt’s only hit, and boy does he name-check like crazy in this song. But it’s just so infectious.
THE MARMALADE
Reflections Of My Life
I remember hearing this song on the radio, and until I realized the title WASN’T part of the refrain, all I could think of was that this song was actually called “All my sorrows, sad tomorrows,” or something like that.
PETERS AND LEE
Welcome Home
See, it’s songs like this that just catch your ear and won’t let go. Holding on like crazy.
SEALS AND CROFTS
Get Closer
You know what’s ultra-cool about this song? Besides the song itself? It’s the fact that for this track, Seals and Crofts became a trio, with the addition of Carolyn Willis, who previously sang in the group Honey Cone.
And if these songs don’t melt your bad moods… maybe you should put your computer speakers outside and see if the music melts the snow and icicles. Right here on K-Chuck Radio.
Hey Chuck,
Thanks for the flashback, heard most for the first time in the very early 70’s on the am kit radio I built. Wow just smoked some brain cells I didn’t think we’re around. Where do you find this stuff? Marmalade? Now there’s a killer trivia question.
