K-Chuck Radio: How’s your medical coverage today?

As many of you know by now, I’m undergoing foot surgery tomorrow.  The surgeons will remove the broken bone that isn’t healing properly, and then I’m looking at crutches, casts, orthotics and physical therapy.

And while I’m on my last day before the surgery, I figured I’d have a little fun and come up with a K-Chuck Radio playlist of songs featuring the medical profession.  Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?

Including:

THOMPSON TWINS
Doctor! Doctor!

I used to enjoy listening to Thompson Twins during the mid-1980’s, even though I knew full well that it as a trio – and that none of them were named Thompson.  Or Thomson, as they were actually named for the bumbling detectives in the Tintin comic series.

ROBERT PALMER
Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)

Has there ever really been a bad Robert Palmer song?  Nope, can’t think of one.  This guy put everything into every song he ever performed.  And this was before he kept making video after video with those freeze-dried miniskirted models.

KISS
Calling Doctor Love

As far as I’m concerned, the classic Kiss lineup was the best Kiss lineup … Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss.  I saw them with that lineup twice, and it completely and totally ruled.

BOBBY SHEEN
Doctor Love

Bobby Sheen was originally the lead singer of Bob B. Soxx and the Blue Jeans, an early 1960’s hitmaking group under the Phil Spector aegis.  This solo track was a monster hit among the Northern Soul dance clubs in England, and it still rocks today.

DAVID SEVILE
Witch Doctor

Think about this for a couple of moments.  This song was the track of 1958… it made its creator, Ross Badgasarian, a ton of money … and this was all before Badgasarian came up with the idea to use his sped-up “Witch Doctor” voice for the Chipmunks.  And this rare clip is from an old Ed Sullivan broadcast, so you can see how the Witch Doctor does what he does … ha ha ha …

“WEIRD AL” YANKOVIC
Like a Surgeon

Look, any excuse for me to insert a “Weird Al” Yankovic track into a blog post is good enough for me.  I only hope that I’m not thinking of this song as the anesthesia starts to kick in tomorrow…

RAY STEVENS
Jeremiah Peabody’s Poly-Unsaturated Quick Dissolving Fast Acting Pleasant Tasting Green and Purple Pills

This might be the cure for all my ills and ailments.  Take a couple of these with water and watch the pain dissolve away.  Amirite?

CHEAP TRICK
It’s Only Love

This was a minor hit by a major band, but take a look at the lower right corner of the video … this may be the only music video I’ve ever seen that was open-captioned.  By your local surgical resident, no less.

MOTLEY CRUE
Dr. Feelgood

Whatever these guys are taking as part of their daily supplements, I want some.  Besides, it was either this track or “Kickstart My Heart,” and I went with this one instead.

THE AFTERNOON DELIGHTS
General Hospi-Tale

And now for the funkiest medical facility in Port Charles, you can’t go wrong with this novelty track from this studio group’s only hit.

Okay, time for me to get ready for surgery.  See you next time with another hit-packed (and a few less bones-packed) episode of K-Chuck Radio!!
