My 2023 photo entries for the Durham Fair are …

My final run at Competition Season 2023 take place at the Durham Fair in Connecticut. So far this year, 2023 hasn’t gone as strongly as I would have liked, and maybe I can end the season with a good showing at Durham.

Because the Durham Fair takes place so late in the year, I usually use it as a chance to give strong-scoring pieces another opportunity for a ribbon, and to test shots I took over the summer and hope that they could be standouts for 2024. But in this case … I’m going with some legacy pieces.

First off … here are my photo entries.

THE SNOWFLAKE RIDE

The Snowflake Ride. Rolleiflex Automat MX camera, Fuji Velvia 100 film. Photo (c) 2021 Chuck Miller, all rights reserved.

Yes, I’m pulling this shot from 2022 – a shot that took a first-place award at the New York State Fair – and giving it a second run. Hey, I’m allowed, it’s my artworks.

THE POWERSCOURT COVERED BRIDGE

This was my shot of the covered bridge in Quebec. A little HDR, a little black and white shift, a lot of detail … and damn those are nice leading lines.

And finally …

DOUBLE FEATURE FAMILY FRIENDLY

Double Feature Family Friendly. Nikon Df camera, Irix 15mm lens, two images spliced together in PhotoShop. Photo (c) 2020 Chuck Miller, all rights reserved.

I printed a 16×20 lenticular day-and-night print of my 2020 Jericho Drive-In sign, and I want to see if this shot has a chance for one more silk.

Oh, and for the first time in a few years, I’m bringing an entry into the Durham Fair’s needlework competition.

This little itty bitty hooked rug.

Yep, it’s the bicolor sunflower latch hooked rug that took a second-place silk at the New York State Fair earlier this year. So maybe there’s a second ribbon for this image. We shall see.

The plan is to haul these artworks to Connecticut in a couple of weeks, and then go see how they did a week afterwards.

In other words … I’m hoping for at least a good showing here.

Let’s end Competition Season 2023 on a positive.
