So I shot some geese over the weekend.

Last Saturday, I went to Washington Park with the express plan of testing out some new film in one of my old cameras.

No, those pictures haven’t been developed yet.

But as I finished my film photo shoot and was putting away my camera gear, I noticed some people at the Washington Park lake. They were tossing bread chunks into the water, and a gaggle of geese swam over and chomped down on free food.

Yeah, I know, I know. You’re not supposed to give the geese bread, it’s bad for them. And for that matter, you really shouldn’t feed the geese. Heck, in Green Island where I live it’s against the law to feed the geese, since they can be a public nuisance with their honking and their crapping. So much so, that the mayor actually brings out a sound cannon and tries to blast the geese out of the neighborhood.

But getting back to Washington Park …

Look, I’m not going to sit there and feed the geese. But as long as the geese are nearby, and I’ve got my camera phone …

Let’s see what I can snag.

I probably took over 180 photos just of the geese swimming around.

And in the end … I liked this photo the best.

That’s actually a nice picture. I’ll save it as an “maybe” entry for Competition Season 2024.

It’s funny, though. I remember when the Washington Park lake had several swans in the water. For years, the swans would swim up and down the length of the lake. And then in wintertime, the city of Albany’s public works department would gather up the swans and keep them in a safe, warm location until springtime.

That was until some jackass actually grabbed some of the swans out of the water and broke their necks. Ugh. And in 2020, some chud actually shot an arrow at a duck in the water. Come on, people…

Hey, at least when I say I’m going to “shoot some animals” …

It involves an f-stop and not a bump-stock. Just sayin’ is all…
