Hey, remember Heather Kovar?

It was all over last year’s news. WRGB anchor Heather Kovar did a broadcast that – well – wasn’t really one of the best out there. And social media shredded her like government documents.

I blogged about it back then.

And I wondered … after all that … whatever happened to Heather Kovar?

I can tell you. She’s back in broadcasting.

She returned to her homeland in Texas, and is now a weekend anchor and featured reporter on station KBTX, the CBS affiliate in College Station. She joined that station in May 2023, and is doing quite well there.

So why did I even bring this up in the first place?

Because I’m still steamed at the way she was treated at WRGB and how she was essentially pilloried after an admittedly poor broadcast day. No matter what the reasons for it, no matter the stresses and struggles she underwent that day, WRGB basically let her twist in the wind before cutting her loose. And that’s a shame.

Trust me. Everybody has a bad day. And WRGB’s had plenty of them in the past. Trust me, there’s some vintage video footage of Tim Welch, after pulling a winning postcard out of the back of a flatbed truck to announce the recipient’s name, tossing the postcard BACK into the flatbed before getting the address of the winner. Oops.

Did Heather Kovar have a bad day? Sure she did. We all do at one point or another.

I’m just glad she found a new station and a new home base.

And although I hope this never happens again … if she ever DOES have another bad broadcast …

I hope her current employers will take care of her with more empathy than the ones in Albany did.
