A couple of months ago, I suffered a diabetic abscess on one of my toes that required a partial amputation. I thought that was the end of it.
It wasn’t.
A second diabetic abscess developed on the side of my left foot. And through various surgeries and debridement – it isn’t going away. The culprit? I may not be getting enough blood to flow into my foot. An angioplasty last Friday did help somewhat, but it looks like I’m going to need a vascular bypass.
Ugh. One thing leads to another.
So at the moment, I’m packing and preparing for a few days in the hospital. My understanding is that I’ll get a vascular bypass, which will increase blood flow to the foot – which will allow healing due to the prior surgeries I’ve undergone.
Look, it’s either this or I start blogging about prosthetics. Not that I would have a problem doing so … but let’s see if we can keep what I was born with.
So just bear with me if things get a little hairy and emotional on the blog. I’m really hoping I will get through this without too much pain or complication.
And if you’re a religious person … maybe say an extra kind word for me the next time you enter your local house of worship.
I’ll see you on the other side.
Very sorry, Chuck. I worry about my feet, too.
