It’s not that I need three hammers. I really don’t.
But my problem was that when I couldn’t find a hammer for a project, I’d go to the hardware store, buy one, come back, use it, put it away – and realize, oh, there’s the hammer I originally owned, now I have a second (or third) hammer.
Yesterday, I did something about this little problem.
I packed up two full tool chests of tools and parts and God knows what … and donated them for a worthy cause.
Let me explain.
There’s a used tool store at the Hilltop Plaza between Watervliet and Latham, a store called the Tool Box. It’s run by the Colonie Senior Citizens Group, and it provides new life for old tools that are no longer needed or necessary.
That’s right … I found a new home for all those tools from my crate art project days, from my Dream Window creation days, all of that.
I walked in, two gentlemen took my tool donations, that was that. They’ll probably sort through the tool chests and determine which tool goes in which bin.
Oh, and I also scored a pair of needle-nosed pliers for $2. Because, for some reason, I thought I had a set of needle-nosed pliers, and I couldn’t find them.
And yes … when I got home, and used the needle-nosed pliers for something …
I discovered – yep – I had a set of needle-nosed pliers that I hadn’t previously donated. Silly me.
But seriously, if you’re planning to clean out your garage or your tool shed or whatnot, the Tool Box takes donations from Wednesday to Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. And the proceeds benefit the Colonie Senior Citizens Group.
Which works perfectly well for me.
Seeing as I’m only a few years away from mandatory conscription into a senior citizens group of some sort. ๐
What a good cause to donate to.

This is SOP for all of us; can’t find the tool you’ve got, buy another, find the original. Of course duplicates of some things are good, but it can get silly.
Unless your house burns down and destroys the tens of thousands of dollars worth of tools you’ve accumulated over 50 years. Then you have a good reason to not be able to find any given item. Unfortunately I’ve found you can’t use it as an excuse to quit working, and then you have to go buy more tools ($300 so far, because prices are way up on everything).

It’s a great shop. The cafe next door is good too.
