Do scammers attract scambots? Of COURSE they do!

Last week, I blogged about a new social media scam, one where a scammer posts on one person’s page, tags twelve other people, and blurts about a cryptic message about “I can’t believe he’s gone, gonna miss him so much,” with a link that, if clicked, will take the victim to some nefarious website where bad things can happen.

Now when I post something from this blog, it automatically gets reposted to my “Chuck Miller Creative Writing Service” Facebook page. That’s a place where people can get notified of new blog posts while they continue to use Marc Zuckerberg’s pet project.

So when this specific blog post popped up … so too did a whole bunch of “people” who never commented on my blog before, who never interacted with anyone on my portal before … all of whom are kindly offering a solution that can repair my computer or restore my identity.

Again, remember. I didn’t suffer a computer breach, and my identity is still my identity. But apparently the scambots already have that information pre-programmed into their teeny weeny logic circuits.

So here are some of the screenshots from these bonkbrains.

Have a good laugh.

Sure is funny how five people – who NEVER commented or posted on that FB page before, ever – all suddenly, as if it were manna from heaven, want to offer their services – or a friend’s services – a friend with an Instagam account, because nothing says “computer repair tech” like an Instagram account.

Nah. These links are more pale than a crowd at a Donald Trump church rally. This is enough bullshit here to fertilize the lower 40 acres.

See, this is the second wave of scambots. They come at the first hint of scambotting, hoping that you might be dumb enough to get fooled by another scambotter. And what do they want from you? Your money? Your identity? Your computer? All of the above?

Again … don’t fall for these scams. Stay alert and stay vigilant. And invest in a good anti-virus program like Malwarebytes or its equivalent.

Protect yourself before someone wrecks yourself.

And all those scammers – and the scammers that are drawn to the scam by the smell of other scammers – can, in very polite terms, fuck all the way off. 😀
