You can fall down the YouTube rabbit hole in an instant, and once you’re there … hoo boy you can find some amazing things.
Such as this classic 1968 jam by Sly and the Family Stone. You know it, you love it, here it is.
Well, when the record company demanded a follow-up to this successful record, Sly Stone complied. Sorta.
He re-produced “Dance To The Music” – and by “re-produced,” I mean he stripped the vocals off, added some French gibberish lyrics, and released the song as credited to “The French Fries.” Yep, it’s “Danse A La Musique,” and it definitely deserves a curious checkout.
Woah.
And if you were wondering whether this was some glorified one-off excursion … no. Sly Stone needed a B-side for “Danse A La Musique,” and with that came the track “Small Fries,” about three brothers who receive their draft notices. And it’s mind-expanding as well.
I’m just saying … hell, I said it before … if you fall down the YouTube rabbit hole, be prepared for the mind-expanding materials you find on your journey.
