I really wish I didn’t have to write this blog post. Seriously.
Last December, I blogged that former WRGB news anchor Heather Kovar – who was released from WRGB after a trainwreck broadcast where she appeared disoriented, disheveled, and countering the effects of something that can be measured in “proof” – had found a new life and a new career as a news anchor in College Station, Texas.
And I finished that blog post with these final words.
“Did Heather Kovar have a bad day? Sure she did. We all do at one point or another. I’m just glad she found a new station and a new home base. And although I hope this never happens again … if she ever DOES have another bad broadcast … I hope her current employers will take care of her with more empathy than the ones in Albany did.”
Hoo boy was I wrong.
Because … well … if you thought Heather Kovar’s image was tarnished with this broadcast on WRGB …

According to station KBTX, where Kovar worked as a weekend anchor for the past year, she and her boyfriend were at a restaurant where, after Kovar finished off several margaritas, she got into an argument with her boyfriend. The couple later left the restaurant and returned to Kovar’s apartment, where the argument continued. And the temperature rose considerably.
That’s when Kovar apparently beat the living daylights out of her boyfriend. Punched him reportedly twelve times. Broke his nose. Bit his arm. Scratched his other arm.
Kovar was arrested and held in jail on a Class A misdemeanor charge of family violence causing bodily injury.
What happens next? I don’t know. But damn, this woman needs help. Counseling. Support. Something’s going on here, and her professional career – hell, her entire life – is crashing fast.
I hate that this is happening. And I hate that it’s now turned into car-crash news.
Again … Heather Kovar needs help. She doesn’t need ridicule or memes or any of that.
Someone fucking help Heather Kovar before the next news cycle has her in more serious peril.
I mean it.
