And let’s start Competition Season off. The last news I heard, three of my four entries were accepted by the Iowa State Fair’s photography salon. Which makes me very happy.
And now I have the results of which ones got selected and which selected entries picked up silks.
But it’s not like I can just hop in the car and drive to Des Moines. So I asked some of my fellow photographers who regularly exhibit at the Iowa State Fair to let me know if they saw any of my pictures on display. And they agreed to do so.
Of the four that were sent, this image landed on the wall – but with no ribbon.

Look at that. First time exhibited, first time on the wall for How God Sees an Eclipse. That’s the way to start Competition Season, for sure.
Then this photo picked up an Honorable Mention ribbon in the macro category.

Tick tock on the clock, 17 Jewel Movement is now the first-ever silk earned by my Nikon medical lens. It’s also my second macro shot to make it to the walls of the Iowa State Fair, after 2021’s “High and Tight” got a second-place silk in its category.
That leaves one photo … and this one earned … a second place ribbon.
And look what New York-based railroad made it to the walls and earned a pretty silk.

That’s right, my shot of the Saratoga, Corinth & Hudson Railroad train crossing the Sacandaga River – an INFRARED capture – is now my first-ever digital-infrared-generated award winner!! A sweet silky red ribbon for second place!
Yep. My first-ever entry created with my infrared-modified Nikon Df, thanks to the good people at Kolari Vision, has earned a second-place appearance at the Iowa State Fair!! Boo yeah!!
And that’s a great start to Competition Season 2024.
Let’s see where we go from here.
Confident that your Birthday month will be a rewarding experience! So far it’s so!
