Fuck Ann Coulter and the broomstick she rode in on.

On Wednesday, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz gave an incredible speech at the Democratic National Convention. And in that speech, you could see shots of his family – his wife Gwen, his daughter Hope, and his son Gus.

Gus Walz has some special challenges in his life. He has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, commonly known as ADHD. He is neurodivergent, and has a non-verbal learning disorder. And at one point in the speech, the cameras caught Gus Walz crying, tapping his chest, and mouthing the words, “That’s my dad,” as his father was on stage.

What an incredible moment.

That’s the kind of speech that would make you want to put on your helmet, run onto the field, and sack the Cleveland Browns quarterback three straight times in the opening possession.

It was an emotional moment. You could see the joy in Gus Walz’ face. The father he loves, the father who went from high school teacher to governor to Vice Presidential nominee – it’s the same father who acknowledged love for his children.

Who wouldn’t want a father like that for his son?

Well, apparently there are some people. Because some “people” took those moments of Gus Walz celebrating his father’s triumph – and used it to take cheap, unnecessary potshots.

Including this ghoul.

There she is. Ann Coulter. The woman who slithered out from under the bridge to heckle the Billy Goats Gruff. She took that emotional moment and turned it into an attack on Gus Walz.

No. I’m not putting up with that.

First thing I did was fire back that this sentient trash heap. And I brought Sid and Marty Krofft into the mix.

And I wasn’t alone. Holly Robinson Peete, the beloved actress from 21 Jump Street whose own father was an original cast member on Sesame Street, shared her thoughts on Ann Coulter’s demagoguery.

See … I have problems with people who attack anyone with autism or learning disabilities or neurodivergence or anything else on that list.

A big problem.

Fourteen years ago, I chastised a fellow Times Union blogger because he used the word “retarded” to describe something. The blogger claimed that he was allowed to use the word “retarded” because someone he knew gave him permission to use the word. Horseshit.

Hell, ten years ago NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer used the “r” word, and I came down on him faster than Terry Labonte at Darlington.

And it’s not like Ann Coulter hasn’t used the “r” word before. And it’s not like I haven’t called her out for using it.

Yeah, trust me. If Ann Coulter was on fire, I wouldn’t piss on her to put the fire out.

But, again – attacking anyone who has an emotional disability or a learning disability or any other sort of disability is repulsive, reprehensible, and just straight-up offensive.

I understand Ann Coulter might have gotten the message and deleted her social media post.

But the damage was done. We already know what’s in what’s left your diseased, rotted heart, Ann Coulter.

And in ending today’s blog, let me recite Maya Angelou’s great quotation. “When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.”

Ann Coulter’s shown us what she is.

She can fuck ALL the way off. Ugh.
