I drove to Springfield, Massachusetts yesterday to drop off my two three items at the Big E’s Creative Arts competition. Simple as anything. Drive up to the fairgrounds, park near Storrowtown Village, walk to the New England Center, hand the receiver my entries, receive my claim checks and tickets to the Big E, and all is good.
But on the way back to my car, I passed a clematis grove. Beautiful white-yellow blooms. And as I walked closer to the clematis grove, I saw a swarm of Eastern bumblebees doing what bumblebees do. They flew and buzzed and crawled around the petals, pollinating every stem and pistel.
This is nice. I watched the bumblebees for a couple of minutes. As long as I didn’t disturb them, they weren’t going to disturb me.
And my hand instinctively reached for my Google Pixel 6 Pro camera. Because of course it did.
And as I carefully but cautiously zoomed in to see if the bumblebee would at least say BZZZZ (which I guess is the equivalent of saying “cheese” in bee-speak), I captured this image.

Let’s face it. There’s really no time like the present to get your photos ready for Competition Season 2025, amirite? 😀
