Foliage By Moonlight

So last Wednesday, I hoped to capture that elusive Comet A3 that flew by our planet. And if I didn’t get it that night, my next opportunity would take place in the year 82,024. Not sure I’ll make that rain date.

I drove out to the Corinth Reservoir – one of the few “dark sky” areas I could reach without a camping reservation – and set up my camera. Nikon Df on the tripod with a 20mm f/2.8 ultrawide lens on the chassis.

And try as I might, I could not find that comet. No soy bueno.

Well, I didn’t drive an hour out of my way for nothing. Let’s see if I can compose something out of this.

And it was at that moment I realized … I’ve got a nearly-full supermoon at my back. And there’s fall foliage on the other side of the reservoir.

You don’t think … possibly …

Hell, let’s try it.

I waited until the moon rose high enough in the sky … and took this image.

Not too shabby. Let’s keep this and see what happens in the future.

And if I somehow manage to stay alive for 80,000 years …

I’ll try again for that comet. 😀
